Yes so i'm here to post my ss assignment...
Sorry for posting late =X
anw the question goes...
Blog on problems that the government face and should tackle. For example, the problem of elitism in Singapore.
The first problem that i think the government is facing is the migration of singaporeans. More and more singaporeans, being attracted by the better and easier lifestyles of other countries, have decided and migrated out of Singapore. I do agree that life here in Singapore is much more stressful than some of the other countries. In Singapore, it is harder, but not impossible to get a job, even if you are a university graduate. There was a show on television some time ago that showed that even university graduates have to work in a coffee shop. This proves how hard it is to 'survive' in the society now. Also, it is difficult for people 40 years old and above to find a job again in Singapore if they have lost their previous job. On the other hand, other countries have less stressful environment, and even help to feed the older people. Thus, many singaporeans are naturally attracted to migrate to these countries.
Actually, we learnt in our ss textbook that the government is already trying some solutions to prevent more and more singaporeans to migrate out of Singapore. Their main aim is actually to create strong family bonds so that the younger ones in Singapore would be influenced by their elders and not want to migrate out of Singapore, and what the government is thinking of is not wrong. But, i think that other than the solutions mentioned in the textbook, a policy to feed the older people should be made in Singapore. As we help feed the elderly in Singapore, more singaporeans would want to stay in singapore, knowing that they won't strave to death without money to buy anything if they get older and get retrenched. Furthermore, the younger generation can continue to work and create income for Singapore. And as singapore is developing herself, she would be wealthy enough to feed the old like some other countries.
Another problem that i think the government should tackle is the dangers of sparklers. Recently, there have been news that, overseas, people have been hurt by the misuse of sparklers. These sparklers, if not handled carefully, will hurt important organs of the human, eg the eye, and even cause fires and contribute to pollution. Thus, to ensure the safety of citizens, the government should be forward looking and try to think of solutions for this problem to prevent such misfortunate cases from happening in Singapore.
I think that one of the solution should be to ban the use of sparklers in Singapore. They saying goes 'better be safe then sorry'. I would rather the citizens be more 'kiasu and kiasi' ten for an accident to happen and then to complain why in the first place the government never stop them from using the dangerous sparklers. Sparklers, in the same case as firecrackers, are just for leisure. It is a desire, not a neccessity. Thus, although when just announced this banning of sparklers, singaporeans might not be able to accept it, but slowly, they will understand that what the government do is correct and for their own good and will thus accept the fact. The government can also impose fines to ensure that the banning of sparklers is successful as some singaporeans are money-minded.
